Lyricist
Performers often find that a line or two in a song just won’t work for the occasion: perhaps it is a reference from years ago, or from another place, that an audience today wouldn’t get; perhaps it was originally a female song that needs more than a pronoun change to make it work. Robert specialises in these alterations. He has completely updated songs such as Cole Porter’s “Well, Did You Evah?” and “Let’s Do It” and Noël Coward’s “I Went to a Marvellous Party.” For special occasions, he has written parodies of songs including “Mame” (Jerry Herman) and Sondheim’s “The Ballad of Lucy and Jessie” (which became “The Ballad of Brucy and Geoffrey”). Robert also writes original lyrics and songs when inspired.
